Domestic Sales Boost For Dia

Spanish retailer Dia had an increase of 6.9 per cent in turnover in the first half of the year, totalling €5.749 billion, with a growth of 18.5 per cent in adjusted net profit.

The retailer's domestic sales rose 6 per cent, reaching €2.413 billion, despite extremely difficult economic conditions and a strong performance in Argentina and Brazil boosted results. Dia opened 459 in the past year and the retailer says it is "very confident" that it will meet its financial targets for 2012. CEO, Ricardo Currás commented, “While conditions are volatile, DIA is steadily moving ahead…Making the most of the opportunities which arise in this situation, at the service of our customers, is the top priority for us."

ESM has an exclusive in-depth interview with Currás in the current issue, in which he discusses football, the retailer's growth and what he sees in the future for Dia. To subscribe to ESM, email colette@esmmagazine.com. (3 Aug)
