Local retailer Dunnes Stores has retaken number one position in the Irish grocery market, according to the latest market share results from Kantar Worldpanel, for the 12 weeks to 29 January.
Dunnes stands on 22.7% market share, having posted a 3.6% increase in sales since the same period last year. Musgrave Group-owned retailer SuperValu is second on 22.5% market share, while Tesco is third on 22.4% share.
“Dunnes Stores has returned to first place, capturing 22.7% share – only the second time it has managed to reach the top, having first held this position in November last year," said David Berry, director at Kantar Worldpanel.
"This will be welcome news for the retailer but there should be some concern that its sales growth has dipped to 3.6% – the lowest level seen in more than a year."
Discounter Aldi holds 10.6 % share of the market, while Lidl is on 10.3% share.
Grocery price inflation stood at 3.0% for the period, down from 4.6% last month.
