Dutch retailer Jumbo has predicted around 2,000 additional visits per store (per day) on the last two days before Christmas, today and tomorrow, compared to average figures for regular days, adding up to around 1.1 million additional store visits nationwide.
Online orders are estimated to double in number, compared to the same period last year.
In addition to extra visits, the average spend per customer has been estimated to increase by around 50% during the Christmas rush, with most of the difference spent on the 'Christmas classics'.
Seasonal favourites in The Netherlands include smoked salmon, roast pork and (Dutch) shrimp.
"Christmas is a busy but enjoyable period our stores. Our staff are happy to offer customers a helping hand, finding the best Christmas products and packing groceries. Moreover, this Christmas, we have enlisted celebrity chef Jonathan Zandbergen to inspire our customers to put a delicious Christmas dinner on the table," said Wim Junte, Marketing Director of Jumbo Supermarkets.
