French market leader E. Leclerc put in a solid performance in the sales period from 4 November to 1 December, according to the latest market share data from Kantar.
The retailer posted 22.1% market share for the period, an increase of 0.5%, with the group increasing its advertising investment (by 4%) in the period – which has helped it gain many additional customers and improve loyalty among existing ones, according to Kantar.
Another major retailer to see growth in the P12 period was Les Mousquetaires, which now holds 14.8% market share. Its Intermarché banner, on 13.7% market share, gained 0.2%, Kantar said.
Discounter Growth
Also putting in a strong performance in the period was Lidl, which achieved a market share of 6.5% for the month, up 0.5%. The discounter has had a strong year, with an average market share of 6.0% across the first 11 periods.
Système U is also experiencing a positive sales dynamic, across hypermarkets, supermarkets and drive outlets, and now sits on 10.2% market share, an increase of 0.2%.
Other retailers to see growth include the L. Delhaize Group, on 2.7% market share, whose Cora banner now holds 2.1% of the market following a gain of 0.1%.
