The possibility of more easyFoodstore branches opening may have increased, as its pilot outlet has proved so popular that it has had to close because of stock-deficits brought by "overwhelming" sales, TheGuardian.com reports.
The supermarket, which employs the slogan "No expensive brands. Just food honestly priced", is a unique kind of discounter, selling only 76 items such as pasta, beans, chocolate and cleaning products. Most of these retail at £0.25 at present.
"The level of interest has been completely overwhelming," said a spokesperson for the supermarket. "The last people through the door today had travelled up from Canterbury."
Selling foodstuffs at £0.25 is understood to be a short-term, introductory offer, though prices will remain at discount levels.
