ECR Community's Sell More, Waste Less working group, which seeks to promote collaboration across the retail sector in tackling food waste, has announced details of a forthcoming meeting in Dublin, Ireland.
Taking place on 13 and 14 November, the Dublin event will be hosted by FoodCloud, and is aimed at retailers, academics and food producers, and will feature insights from leading industry players about waste prevention.
The event will see an update on the 2019 Waste Prevention Challenge, which saw retailers Lidl, Albert, Sonae, Tesco, Asda and Delhaize team up with innovative startups on measures to reduce food waste.
In addition, Kroger's Troy Harding will explore how the US retailer has improved waste management and sales through increased collaboration with merchants and external providers; Assistant Professors Karel Van Donselaar and Rob Broekmeulen from Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) will share insights from their latest academic papers; and a number of suppliers will offer their perspective on how they are collaborating with retailers on food waste reduction measures.
The timetable for the two days can be found here.
The event also includes a visit to a FoodCloud depot, to examine how the social enterprise helps to connect businesses with surplus food to local charities and community groups, as well as a store tour.
