The Edeka-affiliated 'Backstube Wünsche' bakery in Gaimersheim, near Ingolstadt (in Germany) has baked and sold a giant heart-shaped cake, to raise funds for two regional charities. The novelty cake sale was part of an event, titled, 'Herz zeigen' -'Showing heart'- at the Westpark shopping centre in Ingolstadt.
The six square meter, biscuit-base cake, topped with fresh berries and cut into around 700 slices, raised up to €1,000 for 'The Friends of Cancer Patients Ingolstadt' and the 'Children's Fund of the United Nations'.
Backstube Wünsche managers Alexander Hippach and Norbert Alberti commented, "The fundraiser was a great success. We thank our big-spending customers for their generous donations, to the last crumb. We also greatly thank our employees, who put in around 100 hours of work. Without their commitment, this result would not have been possible."
