Edeka's Christmas advert, 'Heimkommen', has won a Grand Prix award at the annual Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity.
The advert, which features a lonely old man faking his own passing in order to get his family to come home for Christmas, won the award for its music track, 'Dad', by Neele Temes, which went on to be a chart hit in Germany after its release.
"'Heimkommen' features perfect communication with the consumer, which is supported by the music," said jury president Josh Rabinowitz when delivering the verdict. A Grand Prix award is the highest honour that can be achieved at the Cannes festival.
The 'Heimkommen' advert previously was awarded at the Deutschen Webvideopreis awards, in the categories Best Commercial and Best of Digital Content.
