German retail-cooperative, Edeka, has announced that ten of its employees have been awarded scholarships for a two-year training programme.
The "Geh Deinen Weg" (Go Your Way) training programme offers participants individual support through a mentoring system, as well as networking events and themed workshops.
The programme was initiated by the Deutschlandstiftung Integration (German Foundation For Integration), which helps create equal career opportunities for young immigrants by providing scholarships.
This foundation was established in 2012, in partnership with the Edeka Group. Scholarships so far have benefited immigrants from South America, Europe and Africa, working mainly in retail and in administrative positions.
"Motivating young people and providing them with a professional perspective, regardless of their background, has always been an integral part of Edeka’s corporate culture," said Markus Mosa, CEO of the Edeka Group and member of the foundation's board of trustees.
The Edeka Group is a leading employer in Germany, with around 346,800 employees and 16,800 trainees in retail, IT, logistics and administration.
