Using the slogan 'Ready for Rio!', German retailer Edeka recently organised a live sports event on Facebook. At a Hamburg branch of Edeka on 31 July, Olympic javelin medallist Christina Obergföll and Markus Böcker, a buyer for Edeka, competed in a number of sports- and food-themed games.
The short event was styled as a TV game show and streamed live to Facebook. Edeka Facebook fans, voting to select the winner, stood a chance to win a prize or a flight for two to the Olympic Games in Rio.
Edeka is sponsoring the German Olympic team, in a partnership to promote sports and a balanced diet. A number of Edeka private-label products, particularly fruits and vegetables, are displaying an Olympic Partner logo this summer.
“Through our Olympic partnership, we provide a structure that our buyers can use to highlight their involvement in sport," said the CEO of Edeka AG in Hamburg, Markus Mosa.
