German retailer Edeka has announced it will commence renaming some 170 Kaiser’s Tengelmann outlets in southern Bavaria (Südbayern) between now and the end of September 2017. Edeka acquired the supermarkets at the beginning of this year.
The company will commence renaming the Tengelmann stores to Edeka outlets in the cities of Augsburg, Rosenheim and in the greater area of Munich, with around 14 supermarkets to be converted each week.
Future-Orientated Strategy
The former Tengelmann supermarkets already featured the Edeka product range and have adopted the company's merchandise management system Lunar at the turn of the year.
“With the comprehensive set of measures consisting of diversification, the introduction of the Lunar merchandise management and the reconstruction of the store design, we are strengthening all the locations and are setting them up to be future-orientated and competitive,” said Edeka Südbayern’s CEO Claus Hollinger.
Store Features
Edeka plans to adjust the product range of the new stores according to customers’ needs and is placing special focus on the installation of fruit and vegetable sections as well as service counters for meat and cheese specialties.
“Our philosophy for the future is that the work on the product range will be within the responsibility of the staff members on-site. They know the most about the customers’ wishes,” Hollinger added.
In addition to regional products and various items of Edeka’s private labels, the new outlets are set to introduce a new loyalty concept that offers customers discounts on selected items with every purchase.
Edeka Xpress
The retailer has also announced plans to convert around 50 Tengelmann outlets with a sales space of under 600 square meters to Edeka Xpress supermarkets.
Edeka xpress will first be introduced in the cities of Munich, Augsburg, Freising and Bad Tölz.
