Edeka's head office health management scheme has been awarded with the Corporate Health Award 2016 in the 'trade' category, the company announced Friday.
More than 300 companies were in the running for the honour.
The award especially honours the operational health management plan 'Edeka fit&gesund', which encourages employees to maintain and improve their health.
"We put a special amount of attention on a healthy diet. This award motivates us to continue on this path," said Martin Scholvin, chairman for personnel and finances at Edeka.
The retailer also promotes awareness about a healthy lifestyle in the form of seminars, workshops and lectures for employees at the head office.
The award is administered by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy, and was given out to companies in twelve industry categories and eight special price categories.
