El Corte Inglés To Collaborate With WWF Spain

Spanish retailer El Corte Inglés has signed a three-year collaborative agreement with World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Spain as part of its environmental policy, it announced Monday.

The agreement includes launching initiatives that will promote organic products, animal welfare, energy efficiency, and food waste reduction, among other projects.

Efforts to improve the environmental awareness of employees, customers, and the public will also feature in the collaboration. This will include awareness campaigns about the WWF in El Corte Inglés locations, sale products with WWF licensing, and participation in events such as Earth Hour.

‘This initiative is part of the policy of commitment to society and environmental protection developed by the El Corte Inglés Group, supporting in a responsible manner different activities related to the environment and sustainability,’ the company said in a release.

Previous Environmental Pledges

Previous environmental commitments have included a pledge to make its private-label eggs cage free by 2025, and in mid-2017 the retailer announced it had reduced its electricity consumption, paper and water waste significantly, as well as reducing its CO2 emissions by over 14,000 tonnes.
