Spain’s El Corte Inglés has announced that it plans to hire around 8,700 extra employees for the busy Christmas campaign, with the new recruits set to the sales and customer service roles, as well as gift wrapping.
The retailer made the announcement as it seeks to ‘improve the shopping experience for the customer, as well as offer the best service and quality that characterises the company,’ it said in a statement.
Increased Focus
El Corte Inglés has said that it is focusing its efforts this Christmas on delivering an ‘attractive and innovative’ offer, with products tailored to ‘all tastes, needs and economic possibilities’. It plans to add a wide range of services to its stores in the weeks leading up to the big day.
The retailer said that it is also launching a range of credit options, aimed at shoppers that currently hold an El Corte Inglés loyalty card.
In August, El Corte Inglés announced that its full year sales for 2016 were €15.5 billion, a 2% increase. This was lower than the 10% growth rate it posted the previous year, which the group attributed to sluggish sales at its Hipercor grocery chain.
