Spanish retailers Eroski and Dia have announced what they have termed as a 'cooperation agreement' for purchasing, which will, to a certain extent, unify their buying policies of products, LSA reports.
The deal incorporates both Spanish and foreign brands. Local brands and fresh produce do not fall within the terms of the agreement.
In a joint statement, Dia and Eroski stressed that the deal will not affect the advertising/communication policies of either retailer.
Dia has a similar arrangement for its Portuguese operation with French retailer Intermarché. The Eroski-Dia deal occurs within a context in which such mergers are increasingly common. Leclerc and Rewe have a comparable deal, as well as Auchan and Système U.
