Spanish retailer Eroski has launched a new 'gold card', which offers customers a 4% discount on all purchases, for a monthly subscription fee.
For €4.99 per month, shoppers can receive the premium loyalty card, getting discounts in the cooperative's hypermarkets, supermarkets, gas stations, travel agencies, opticians and online store.
Eroski says that this programme is an extension of its existing Eroski Club loyalty scheme, adapting it to the changing retail market.
"In the current context of growing and intense competition, any company needs to differentiate for the customer," said Eva Ugarte, director of marketing at Eroski.
"Three years after the launch of Eroski Club, we are innovating with new savings formulas that contribute to improving the purchasing power of families."
Loyalty Offers
Eroski's gold card is being launched this week in the Basque Country, Navarre, Cantabria and Aragon. The programme will be extended to the central and southern region, as well as the Balearic Islands, in a second phase starting in April.
The retailer says that 3.5 million customers are already signed up to the Eroski Club scheme, which saved shoppers €260 million last year through exclusive offers and personalised discounts.
Eroski has a commercial network of over 1,600 outlets across Spain.
