Spanish distribution chain Eroski has announced plans to open 19 petrol stations in the country over the next two years.
As reported by financialfood.es, the thinking behind the strategy is that an expansion of its petrol station network will increase the attractive and competitiveness of Eroski stores.
"The opening of petrol stations inside our supermarkets will provide an additional growth in sales of food of 4 per cent. We want to extend this experience to new generation supermarkets as a bet on the continued improvement of the services we offer to consumers", said Rosa Carabel, General Director of Eroski's commercial network.
With an estimated investment of more than €7 million, the petrol stations will be located in the Balearic Islands, Cantabria, Catalonia, Navarra, Basque Country and Galicia, and the majority of them will be located next to Eroski supermarkets that have been remodelled or that are new.
By the end of this summer Eroski expects to have opened three new petrol stations in Vizcaya, Cantabria and Mallorca.
