Italian supermarket chain Esselunga has opened a new store in Genoa, in which it has invested an estimated €65 million.
The San Benigno superstore is the brand’s second outlet to open in the city, following a store in Via Piave which opened in late 2020.
It is also Esselunga’s fourth store in the Liguria region after La Spezia and Albenga and the 186th in Italy.
The 3,200 superstore is spread over two floors, offering 18,000 SKUs with Esselunga's usual focus on convenience and private-label lines, the retailer said.
The fruit and vegetables counters feature more than 500 selected products, the Bio line and many local products.
The deli department offers a selection of quality cheese SKUs, cold cuts and Italian specialties as well as traditional, vegetable and world dishes proposed by ‘Esselunga Cucina’.
Elsewhere, an extensive selection of meat is available in the ‘Esselunga Hamburgeria’, the assisted fishmonger’s counter offers fresh fish and seafood, and in the in-house bakery, more than 16 varieties of fresh bread are baked throughout the day, along with pizzas and focaccia.
Enriching the offer is Elisenda, Esselunga's line of haute patisserie, while in the wine department a sommelier guides customers in wine selection.
Atlantic Bar
The Atlantic Bar on the second floor, the 114th in the Esselunga chain, has a serving area of about 100 square metres and an outdoor area of 50 square metres, offering a total of 110 seats.
Dedicated quick checkouts for self-payment and self check-out are available for a swift shopping experience.
In addition to the e-commerce service, a locker is active on the street level, with the possibility of ordering groceries online and picking them up.
Energy Saving
The A2 energy class building is equipped with a photovoltaic system for energy production from renewable sources and is connected to the city's district heating network.
Also available is an eco-compactor for the collection and recycling of plastic bottles.
