Polish retailer Eurocash has expressed an interest in bidding for Zabka, Barclays European Food Retail Equity Research has reported.
Speaking in an interview with Portugese newspaper, Jornal de Negócios, last Friday, president of Eurocash Luis Amaral, confirmed the Polish wholesalers are considering a bid for the convenience store chain.
Amaral stated that Eurocash aims to overtake Biedronka, the current market leader in Poland, in terms of sales, but added that they ‘still have a lot to do’.
Zabka generated sales of approximately €1.3 billion last year from its 2,600 stores across Poland.
Zabka was acquired from Mid Europa in 2011 for €400 million. The banner is currently reported to be worth up to €1 billion.
