Expenditure Per Household Increased In Spain For The First Time Since 2008

The Spanish National Institute of Statistics (INE) has revealed that the average household expenditure in 2015 was €27,430, which represented an increase of 1.4 per cent compared to the previous year.

As reported on revistainforetail.com, this is the first time the figure has increased since 2008 and, not including price changes, growth reached 2.2 per cent.

Food accounted for €4,125 or 15.1 per cent of the total household budget. Among the main categories, meat was the top-chosen category (3.6 per cent of the total), along with bread and cereals (2.3 per cent), milk, cheese and eggs (1.8 per cent) and fish (1.8 per cent).

The average spend per capita in 2015 was €10,900, an increase of 1.9 per cent compared to the previous year.

Figures from the INE show that since 2006 - the year in which measurements were taken for the first time - the average household expenditure grew until reaching its highest point in 2008. After that, it decreased consistently until 2014, and growth was only registered again in 2015.

However, the INE noted that the expenditure decrease between 2006 and 2015 was €2,795 which means it is still down by 9.3 per cent from then.
