Portuguese food retailer Sonae MC has seen a 0.8 per cent growth in sales in 2015, to €3.49 billion, according to preliminary results.
The retail group's food retail segment posted a positive performance throughout the year, having grown in the last quarter of 2015 by 1.8 per cent to €941 million, benefiting from a special Christmas campaign by hypermarket chain Continente.
Eleven new Continente Bom Dia and two Continente Modelo stores were opened during the year, increasing the square meters space occupied by the retailer by 3.5 per cent compared to 2014. The network of Meu Super stores also continued to increase.
In addition, in December, Sonae MC opened a special store in the Lisbon area for customers of its e-commerce service, Continente Online.
The e-commerce segment performed especially well, increasing turnover by 7.9 per cent, with over 200,000 consumers signing up in just three months for the Universo credit card, which combines new payment solutions and new loyalty options.
