Ahold Delhaize has announced that its former CEO, Dick Boer, was conferred a royal decoration by the mayor of Heemstede, Astrid Nienhuis, at a farewell event for external stakeholders.
Boer has been named Officer in the Order of Orange-Nassau, a recognition granted by King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands for rendering exceptional service to society.
The event was attended by Dutch and Belgian business leaders, suppliers, government officials, and non-governmental organizations.
Encouraging Healthy Eating
Boer was nominated for the title for his initiatives to encourage healthier eating in the Netherlands, and for his efforts in the NL2025 platform to promote better education, sustainable growth and a vital society in the country.
He said he was deeply honoured to receive the royal decoration and called it a recognition of the work done by his associates and partners.
Boer handed over his duties as CEO of the group to Frans Muller on 1 July 2018.
Muller thanked Boer for his strong cooperation in the past years and urged all stakeholders of Ahold Delhaize to continue to engage with him and the company.
Other Highlights
During the event, the former CEO also conducted a discussion themed 'A vital role in society'. Several speakers participated in the talk, including Ahold Delhaize chairman Jan Hommen and an internist-endocrinologist Dr. Liesbeth van Rossum.
Prince Constantijn of the Netherlands, who is also StartupDelta's special envoy, engaged in a debate with Boer on innovation and entrepreneurship, and the role mature corporations can play.
CEO of Dutch cooperative lender Rabobank Groep, Wiebe Draijer, spoke about being a multi-national while still ensuring local impact.
