Lindsey Pownall, the ex-CEO of branded and private label food supplier Samworth Brothers, has been appointed to the Tesco board as an independent non-executive director.
In a press release, Tesco describes Pownall as possessing "significant experience in food, grocery and retail brand development, as well as a wealth of experience in supply leadership and strategic development."
Tesco chairman John Allan commented, "I'm delighted to welcome Lindsey as a non-executive director. She brings a wealth of relevant experience, and complements the existing skills and experience on the board. She will undoubtedly be a valuable addition to the board."
Samworth Brothers produces a number of private label ready meals, pies, desserts and cakes for Tesco, M&S, Morrisons and Waitrose, according to RetailGazette.co.uk.
It is also the producer of brands Ginsters, Dickinson & Morris pork pies, Walkers pies and Walkers sausages.
Pownall’s appointment, which is effective from April 1, comes at a time of reinvention for Tesco’s private label offering. She will also join Tesco's corporate responsibility committee.
