German retail cooperative Edeka has announced that it intends to enter into a long-term partnership with Hamburg-based pharmacy chain, Budni.
The agreement between the two companies includes the management of pharmacy-related product ranges, for which Budni can provide specific expertise.
The partnership still needs to be approved by the Federal Cartel Office, Germany's national competition regulator.
A spokesperson for the family-owned pharmaceutical company, Christoph Wöhlke, commented, "Due to our 104-year history, our Hamburg roots, our values and associated responsibilities towards our customers and employees, the continuation of Budni as a network of independent branches has been decisive for us in the selection of a partner. Edeka shares, respects and supports our values."
Markus Mosa, chairman of the Board of Edeka AG, added, "We will gain an ideal partner in Budni, with its expert knowledge of the pharmacy segment to support our ambitions and business perspectives."
