"Great" Year For Dia At Home And Abroad

Spanish discount supermarket chain Dia today posted its full financial results for 2013, showing a rise in profit, revenue and store network globally.

Adjusted net profit for the 12 month period rose 11.7% to €227 million from €204 million a year earlier, which the company said was boosted by capital gains from the sale of a Turkish retailer Diasa Dia Sabanci in April.

Total gross sales in 2013 climbed 7.2% to €11.48 billion, while net sales were up 6% to €9.84 billion.

The company's performance in its two major markets, Brazil and Iberia, was particularly noteworthy.

"In Iberia, we have reached an outstanding level of profitability, gaining market share for yet another year, especially through an ambitious and well-executed expansion plan based mainly on the growth of franchise," said Dia CEO Ricardo Currás.

The company posted a 21% rise in net sales throughout Brazil, reaching €1.44 billion.

"2013 has been a great year for DIA. In an extremely difficult context we have achieved our goals. In Iberia we have achieved outstanding levels of profitability and gained market share".

"The importance of our strategy , our clear and precise action plan and, above all, the extraordinary execution by our teams, make me feel confident in our ability to achieve our long-term goals," says Currás.
