Data published by Kantar shows that the growth in sales figures in Aldi UK supermarkets that have been trading for a year or more has begun to subside in a phenomenon Bernstein Research chief analyst Bruno Monteyne has referred to as trading “maturation,” telegraph.co.uk reported.
Details of this trend emerge following the German multinational’s announcement that it will build 80 new supermarkets across Britain in 2016. Aldi says this is to satisfy the demand for its “unique combination of award winning quality at unbeatable prices."
Monteyne explained however, that “recent sales growth trends indicate that almost all growth is now from new stores and the maturation of stores opened in the last few years.”
He added that there there is zero to one per cent growth at its more mature stores.
