Spain's Grupo DIA has launched ‘DIAContribuye2020’, a project aimed at mitigating the negative consequences of the COVID-19 crisis on the communities across the four countries in which it operates: Spain, Portugal, Argentina and Brazil.
Throughout 2020, the company will actively support vulnerable social groups through a range of local initiatives, with a special focus on those most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, it said.
An initial budget of €1 million has been allocated to the project, and will go towards providing food and safety support in Spain.
The focus of the project is to support society at large, particularly the most vulnerable groups such as the elderly, children, the youth and families, who are highly at risk of exclusion from other forms of support.
The project will be supported by employees, franchisees and suppliers to the retailer.
'Time To Step Up'
Commenting on the initiative, executive chairman of Grupo DIA, Stephan DuCharme, said, "It is time for companies to step up and help society, help our communities, our employees and our franchisees. We are living in difficult times, and we want to contribute with what we know how to do best.
“DIA believes that, in this social context, it has the responsibility to take an active and relevant role.”
