Austrian discounter Hofer has been named as the cheapest supermarket in the country by Austria's consumer association Verein Fur Konsumenteninformation.
The association analysed prices in eight domestic food retail chains, comparing 143 every-day products, including low-price, branded, and organic items.
Through its private label brands, which account for 90% of the products on sale, Hofer offered the lowest prices out of the selection of supermarkets and discounters.
Hofer, the sister chain of German retailer Aldi, says that the majority of its products come from local suppliers. It added that 90% of its milk, 90% of its baked goods, and 70% of its meat and sausage products are sourced in Austria.
The retailer operates nearly 480 stores across the country.
