Austrian retailer Hofer, sister supermarket chain to Germany’s Aldi Süd, has announced the opening of its fifth emission-free supermarket. The outlet will be located in Seitenstetten, near Linz.
Hofer was first Austrian retailer to be entirely CO2-neutral, achieving this feat in January 2016. As well as introducing energy efficiency measures, the company also supports climate protection projects.
The new outlet in Seitenstetten is fitted with LED lighting and is powered by sustainable energy.
Continued Expansion
Elsewhere, Hofer also announced the reopening of an outlet in Schladming, near Germany, after a five week reconstruction period. LED illumination was also installed at this outlet to save energy.
Both supermarkets offer a variety of bakery products, as well as snacks and drinks, a wide range vegetables and fruits, and a wine department. Hofer also announced plans to obtain the majority of its raw materials from local producers.
With the opening of these two new supermarkets, Hofer continues its expansion in Austria. In 2016, the retailer opened 15 new outlets and modernised more than 30.
