Austrian discounter Hofer is celebrating the milestone of reaching 100 stores in the country's capital city, Vienna.
The first Hofer market in Vienna was opened in 1974, and the retailer now operates stores in each of the city's 23 districts, employing over 1,900 people.
"With its almost two million inhabitants, Vienna is a very important location for Hofer," said Günther Helm, chief executive of the retail group.
"All the more pleasing, of course, is that the Viennese people like to shop at Hofer. As a result of the unbroken growth of the federal capital, we will continue to consolidate the branch network in the coming years in order to be as close to the customer as possible."
Viennese Network
A wide range of Hofer outlets can be found across Vienna, including the retailer's smallest branch, located in Alserbachstraße, and a number of stores in historic buildings.
The retailer also began testing its sustainability initiative, Project 2020, in the city, installing solar panels and e-charging stations.
Hofer says that it will continue to grow its network in Vienna in the coming years, and maintain its market share in the city, which currently stands at 23.2%.
