Household Consumption To Grow By 1.4% In Italy: Coop

A report by Italian supermarket chain Coop has found that household consumption in Italy will grow by 1.4 per cent in 2016, the largest annual increase in the past decade.

The report, which asked consumers about their spending intentions in 2016 after the Christmas period, found that the largest percentage of respondents (33 per cent) said that they were looking to 2016 "with hope".

Some 14.3 per cent said that they expected change in 2016, while the prevailing sentiment for 14.2 per cent of respondents was that of fear. One in eight said that recovery was expected, while 8.5 per cent said that they were in crisis.

Based on the survey, Coop predicts that per-capita consumption will hit levels seen in the late nineties, but still over €1,700 less compared to 2007.
