Consumer prices in Hungary increased by 3.2% in October on average compared to the year-ago period, according to the latest data from the Hungarian Central Statistical Office (Központi Statisztikai Hivatal - KSH).
This increase was by an average of 0.1% in one month, within which vehicle fuel prices rose by 0.8%, KSH noted.
Food prices increased by 4.5%, with flour, milk, and fruit and vegetable juice prices going up 38.9%, 16.8% and 12.1%, respectively.
It was followed by cooking oil (+9.9%), chocolate and cocoa (+9.8%), butter and buttercream (+7.9%), restaurant meals (+7.6%), and school meals (+6.2%).
Other Price Increases
The price of dry pasta decreased by 7.3%, sugar by 2.9%, margarine by 2.7%, and eggs by 2.1%, data showed.
The price of alcoholic beverages and tobacco increased by 3.8% during the month, while household energy prices fell by 4.8%.
The cost of services increased by 7.2%, including highway tolls, car rental, parking, rent, vehicle repair and maintenance, personal care services, sports and museum tickets, apartment repair and maintenance, condominium common costs, and holiday services.
Consumer durables prices fell by 0.3%, while the price of used cars declined by 7.5 %, jewellery by 11.4%, and new cars by 5.9%.
Month-On-Month Performance
On a month-on-month basis, consumer prices increased by an average of 0.1%.
Food prices rose by an average of 0.7%, including flour and seasonal foods, such as potatoes, fresh vegetables, and fresh domestic and southern fruit in total witnessing increases.
Price rise was also seen for butter and butter cream, cheese, cooking oil, milk, eggs, dairy products, poultry and dry pasta.
The price of household energy did not change on average, within which bottled gas became 0.5% more expensive, electric energy 0.2 % more expensive, firewood 1.1% cheaper, piped gas 0.1 % cheaper.
