Poland's Grupę Muszkieterów, which is part of the France-headquartered Mousquetaires Group, has announced that its Intermarché banner generated more than PLN 1.2 billion (€281.3 million) in turnover in the first quarter of 2018.
This is an increase of 11.4% compared to the previous year.
Marc Dherment, the business' director general, commented, “The calendar layout in the first quarter of this year strongly favoured our food business. The next three months will probably not be so favourable due to the number of Sundays where the trade ban will be applied.
“Nevertheless, we assess the sales dynamics demonstrated by Intermarché very positively, especially considering that in the first quarter we have not yet implemented trade initiatives that we are currently working on intensively.”
The Intermarché grocery chain boasts 229 supermarkets and 63 supermarket petrol stations in Poland.
Grupę Muszkieterów is an network of over 300 independent Polish entrepreneurs managing Intermarché outlets across Poland. The group also operates stores in France, Belgium and Portugal.
