Interspar Austria has announced the appointment of Christian Brettner as sales director as of August 2024.
As national sales director, Brettner will now be responsible for 70 Interspar hypermarkets in Austria and their operational management.

Background
Brettner started as an apprentice at Interspar and was most recently regional director for the East Tyrol, Carinthia and parts of Styria region.
He began his professional career with an apprenticeship as a retail clerk in the Interspar hypermarket at Durchlaßstraße 4, 9020 Klagenfurt. After successfully completing his apprenticeship, he initially worked as an employee in the non-food sector.
After various positions in the market – including managing an Interspar in Klagenfurt – and several years at the Interspar headquarters in Salzburg as non-food sales manager, the St. Veit native was responsible for a total of nine Interspar hypermarkets in East Tyrol, Carinthia and Styria as Interspar regional director from 2021 to 2024, and thus for the organisational management of nine business managers and around 900 employees in the markets.
New Role
In his new role, Brettner will, among other things, take over the technical management of the nine Interspar regional directors in Austria.
This means that he has operational responsibility for all 70 Interspar hypermarkets and the Interspar online shop, as well as personnel responsibility for around 7,000 employees in the markets.
He is also responsible for the management of the entire market organisation in the Interspar headquarters and in the regions.
Retirement
This comes after the announcement that long-time Interspar sales director Andreas Maier (61) is retiring at the end of 2024, after 33 years with the company.
Among other things, he successfully headed Interspar sales from 2008 onwards.
Bretter will take over all responsibilities in August 2024, and Andreas Maier will advise him until the end of the year.

"It was an exciting journey for me with countless, great moments and people with whom I was able to work," said Andreas Maier, former sales director at Interspar.
"After more than three decades in the company, a new phase of my life is now beginning.
