Interspar Austria has partnered with Austrian company Planet Pure, to trial filling stations for organic laundry and dishwashing detergents.
The trial, which is currently underway in two hypermarkets in Vienna and Salzburg, is part of Spar Austria’s plan to reduce unnecessary plastic packaging.
Refill Trial
Spar is the first food retailer in the country to trial filling units for organic laundry and dishwashing detergents.
The filling units currently offer four options, supplied by Planet Pure: three laundry detergents, aloe vera, lavender, and sensitive and a lime-scented organic dishwashing detergent.
Customers can purchase an empty reusable 1 litre bottle for dishwashing detergents and a 1.5 litre bottle for laundry detergents, to fill at the filling unit.
To ensure that the necessary hazard warnings are printed on the packaging and to meet labelling regulations, customers can only use the containers provided in-store.
Managing director of Interspar Austria, Markus Kaser, commented on the initiative, “Environmental protection and plastics reduction are extremely important to us, this new refill concept protects the environment in many ways."
Speaking about Planet Pure he said, "Planet Pure is an innovative partner, which developed the world’s first eco-certified detergent in 2011. All Planet Pure products are made from plants and are 100% biodegradable.”
The filling units are part of Spar Austria’s plastics reduction campaign, 'Save on plastics with Spar,' aimed at drawing customers’ attention to plastic-free or reduced-plastic options in stores.
