Musgrave Group and Tesco were among the big winners at the annual Best in Fresh Awards, which took place in Dublin at the start of July, hosted by ESM's sister publication, Checkout.
The awards, which celebrate excellence in fresh food retailing, acknowledge retailers of all sizes and formats.
Musgrave's SuperValu and Centra banners secured 11 awards between them, including the awards for the freshest food offering in a Large Supermarket (for Garvey’s SuperValu Tralee), Medium Supermarket (SuperValu Castletownbere) and Small Supermarket (Ryan’s SuperValu Killmallock), three of the biggest awards on the day.
Commenting on Musgrave Group's achievements, Martin Kelleher, managing director, SuperValu and Centra said, “The ‘Best in Fresh’ awards celebrate the very best in Irish grocery retailing and we are delighted to win 11 out of 25 awards this year. This great achievement is testament to the expertise of staff in our stores and the high level of training that they receive."
Award Winners
In addition, Fresh The Good Food Market, Camden Street, Dublin took the Conveience Store award, building on its recent success at at the international NACS Awards. Best Fresh Food Retail Chain award went to Tesco Ireland, while the Best in Fresh Lifetime Achievement Awards went to independent retailer Peter Caviston of Caviston’s Food Emporium.
Finally, six supplier awards were presented, as voted for by the industry, with BWG National Distribution Centre, Astron Engineering, and Aryzta Food Solutions Ireland among the winners.
