Ireland's Musgrave Group has announced that it is to acquire Donnybrook Fair, an independent, upmarket grocer, for an undisclosed sum.
Donnybrook Fair operates five gourmet stores located around the Irish capital, Dublin, in Donnybrook, Stillorgan, Malahide, Greystones and Baggot Street, as well as a food production facility.
The retailer, which is owned by independent operators Joe and Mary Doyle, employs 250 people.
Musgrave Group has confirmed that post the acquisition, which is subject to approval by the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, the Donnybrook Fair name will be retained.
The Cork-based group also added that the acquisition of Donnybrook Fair will strengthen Musgrave's p[resence in the Dublin food market, and complement Musgrave's existing brands.
'Fantastic Addition'
“Donnybrook Fair represents a fantastic addition to Musgrave," said Chris Martin, Musgrave chief executive. "With its focus on creating a destination retail experience as well as a premium food offering, it aligns with our Growing Good Business strategy."
Martin added that Musgrave is focused on "developing opportunities around every food occasion in a growing market. This included the purchase of La Rousse Foods earlier this year, broadening our offer into the premium foodservice sector.
"Donnybrook Fair increases our penetration of the Dublin food market and our intention is to maintain and grow the brand for the long term. We are looking forward to taking it to the next stage of development.”
