Irish retail group Musgrave has confirmed that it was the subject of a cybercrime attack, which has impacted its SuperValu, Centra and Daybreak stores.
The retailer says that it detected malicious software that was attempting to extract debit and credit card numbers and expiry dates, but not the cardholder name, PIN number or CCV number.
The company adds that there is no evidence that any data has been stolen, however, it has installed a number of technical fixes and will continue to actively monitor the situation.
Musgrave's statement noted that 'the company aims to ensure that security standards are maintained at the highest levels and apologises to its customers for this issue'.
SuperValu is the largest supermarket in Ireland, with 22.1% market share, according to the latest figures from Kantar Worldpanel.
