Dutch retailer Jumbo has announced that its distribution centre in Breda has won silver in the 11th 'Safest Warehouse In The Netherlands' competition. Criteria included safety, ergonomics and well-being in the workplace. The 38,000 m2 distribution centre counts 450 employees.
"The distribution centre is the beating heart of Jumbo and the main link between our suppliers and our stores," said Karel de Jong, Supply Chain Manager at Jumbo. "Our distribution center in Breda uses the latest technology to supply stores efficiently. But no matter how sophisticated the technology, logistics remain primarily about people. Every day, our employees endeavour to meet the expectations of customers, or surpass them. This award is a great compliment to all employees of the distribution centre in Breda and to Jumbo, which sees safety as a first priority."
Since acquiring Super De Boer in 2009 and C1000 in 2012, Jumbo has become the second largest supermarket chain in the The Netherlands. It has around 580 stores, including three Food Markets and over 285 Pick Up Points for online orders.
