Dutch retailer Jumbo has announced plans to put its second e-fulfilment centre (EFC) into operation in early 2018, converting an unused former distribution centre in Raalte.
Jumbo noted that the extra capacity is needed in response to the rapidly growing amount of orders at its online store Jumbo.com. The new opening in Raalte will significantly contribute to the retailer’s growth plans and is expected to create around 550 new jobs.
Location Advantages
“Sooner than expected, we will reach the maximum capacity of our EFC at Den Bosch during the following year,” said Frits van Eerd, CEO at Jumbo.
“The location in Raalte is a logical choice for the capacity expansion. From there, we can deliver products to customers in the country’s north and east. In addition, the location in Raalte, a former distribution centre, is already part of our portfolio. The vacant property will therefore receive a new, future-oriented function, creating additional jobs for the region.”
Jumbo aims to make online purchases and deliveries as easy as possible. With the help of the new EFC, the retailer hopes to expand its online business further and be able to deliver purchases faster in the future.
