Dutch retailer Jumbo has announced the appointment of Ton van Veen as its new chief executive officer and Colette Cloosterman-van Eerd as chair of its supervisory board.
van Veen has worked for Jumbo since 2004, and along with Karel, Colette, Frits and Monique van Eerd, has been instrumental in the success of the chain, which has grown from 30 to over 700 stores in 20 years, the retailer said.
'A Great Family Business'
Commenting on his new role, van Veen stated, "Jumbo is a great family business with a unique culture based on entrepreneurship. In all those years that he was CEO, Frits van Eerd has played a very important role in the growth and success of Jumbo.
"I want to thank him, Colette and Monique for trusting me. I look forward to further expanding Jumbo's success, in close involvement with the Van Eerd family and together with the management team, all colleagues and independent entrepreneurs."
In October 2022, van Veen stepped in as temporary chief executive of the company after Frits van Eerd stepped down as CEO due to an investigation by the Public Prosecution Service (OM).
Even after a positive conclusion of that investigation for him, van Eerd has decided not to return as CEO of Jumbo, the retailer noted.

Colette Cloosterman-van Eerd
Cloosterman-van Eerd has succeeded her father and founder, Karel van Eerd, who passed away in December 2022.
In her new role, she will work with the other supervisory directors and van Veen and focus on growing the business.
She added, "Ton offers Jumbo the continuity and stability it needs in these economically challenging times. He knows our family values like no other and understands how Jumbo was originally intended.
"We are confident that he can lead our family business to a new generation. I look forward to working with him in our new roles in the years to come."
