Dutch retailer Jumbo has inaugurated its first supermarket in Belgium in the border-city of Pelt.
A large number of customers from Pelt and neighbouring areas poured into the new store to experience the 'Dutch store formula', Jumbo said in its statement.
'A Dream Come True'
Jumbo chief executive, Frits van Eerd, said, "This first step abroad is a dream come true. Our family business has already experienced many milestones, but this is a very special one.
"Belgium and the Belgians have a special place in our hearts. We now want to [win] a special place in the hearts of our Belgian customers."
Expansion Plans
In the coming weeks, the retailer aims to open new supermarkets in the municipalities of Lanaken and Rijkevorsel.
It also plans to open around 12 to 15 new stores in Flanders next year.
In July of this year, the retail giant opened its Belgian office in Brasschaat to launch operations in the country.
