According to Dutch wine-buyers' guide, De Grote Hamersma, Jumbo is regarded as the best Dutch retailer when it comes to wines priced under €5. As many as 54 of Jumbo's wines have received a special recommendation in this year's guide.
Each year, De Grote Hamersma presents a comprehensive listing of wines available in The Netherlands, selected and rated from a total of around 7,000 wines tasted by Harold Hamersma.
"The Jumbo wine team is motivated to bring the best wines, at the best price, within reach. We have a worldwide network of local wineries and cooperatives, both in the classic wine countries of Italy, Spain and France as well as in new wine-producing countries such as South Africa, Argentina and Chile. We are very pleased with the entries in the Grote Hamersma 2017 and are proud that of all supermarkets, we offer the best wines at the lowest prices," said Ed van de Weerd, Director of Commerce at Jumbo.
According to Jumbo, quoting a Nielsen report, around 80 percent of wines sold in The Netherlands are sold through supermarkets.
