Since the beginning of 2023, Kaufland Bulgaria has invested over BGN 21 million (€11 million) in the modernisation of eight hypermarkets.
The project includes the implementation of a number of new, technological innovations, Kaufland added.
The retailer is giving priority to solutions aimed at improving the overall customer experience and reducing the company's environmental impact, it added.
Kaufland Haskovo
The latest project to be completed involved an estimated investment of BGN 2 million (€1 million), and saw the installation of new refrigeration equipment in the Kaufland Haskovo hypermarket.
All installations at Kaufland Haskovo are now low-emission and operate with a refrigerant that is almost 4,000 times more environmentally friendly than the previous version, according to the retailer.
The new equipment offers a significant improvement in the storage of goods and the protection of the environment, Kaufland said.
Energy-Efficient Solutions
The refrigeration installations are more than 30% more energy efficient compared to the previous equipment used, resulting in savings of around 500,000 kWh of electricity per year.
The upgrade will also save around 250 tonnes of carbon emissions annually, which is equivalent to the emissions from around 100 cars on an annual basis.
In addition to improved energy efficiency, the renovated hypermarket in Haskovo embodies Kaufland's One Stop Shopping concept, the retailer said, under which each customer can make their daily or weekly shopping with a choice of nearly 20,000 items.
Kaufland Bulgaria is one of the leading retail chains in the country with an annual turnover of nearly BGN 1.9 billion, operating 63 hypermarkets in 35 cities. Since launching in 2006, Kaufland has invested a total of BGN 1.9 billion (€971 million) in Bulgaria.
