German retailer Kaufland has announced expansion plans for Romania with the news it will open a store in one of Bucharest's poorest areas.
The outlet will be located on Calea Ferentari on the Fapiro platform.
It is one of Bucharest’s most dangerous neighbourhoods.
No other hypermarkets operate in this area of the capital city.
Kaufland has received the permits needed to build the unit on Calea Ferentari 62 in the fifth district.
The plan was authorised by Bucharest town hall.
The Calea Ferentari store will cover 13,358 square metres.
There will also be a underground car park.
Kaufland currently operates seven stores in Bucharest.
It plans to open three more outlets in the capital by the end of 2014.
