Jukka Erlund, the chief financial officer of Finnish retail group Kesko, has been named CFO of the year 2018 by Talouselämä magazine and Accenture.
Erlund was acknowledged for his role in Kesko’s transformation, from strategy formulation to the execution of acquisitions and divestments, and the related financing and integration.
Extremely Business-Oriented
The jury lauded the retailer for its effectively organised financial administration, and called the CFO “extremely business-oriented".
Commenting on the award, Erlund said, “It is a great honour to have our work at Kesko be acknowledged in this manner.
"I want to thank all my colleagues, because success is a team effort, and I look forward to continuing our work,” he added.
The Selection Process
The selection process was carried out in three stages. A five-year key figure analysis of around 50 companies was carried out, followed by a qualitative survey.
The eventual winner was announced after a 360-degree assessment of four CFOs chosen for the semi-final.
The jury was chaired by Jorma Eloranta, while other jury members include Tapio Korpeinen, CFO of UPM-Kymmene, Fazer’s CEO Jouni Grönroos, Anne Brusila, portfolio manager at eQ Asset Management, Frank Korsström, Nordic managing director of Accenture, and the editor-in-chief of Talouselämä, Emilia Kullas.
The recognition is an attempt by the organisers to increase public appreciation for financial administration and management.
