Croatian retailer Konzum is planning to invest HRK 25 million (€3.27 million) by the end of the year to launch an online service.
The 5,000 m2 facility in Vrbani will house the logistics centre and warehouse, reports local daily Vecernji List.
According to Konzum president, Darko Knez, the online channel has been growing at annual growth rates of over 25 per cent, but still occupies a very narrow segment of the market. However, he says that an online presence is extremely important for the perception of the chain.
Among the novelties Konzum plans to introduce is the possibility of choosing foods with the help of recipes - with one click of a recipe for a dish, customers will get in the basket all the ingredients necessary for preparation.
Speaking at the Weekend Media Festival, Knez pointed out that retail will increasingly take into account customers preferences, using the analysis of data collected with the help of a loyalty program. Konzum’s Multiplus program currently has one million registered customers, while approximately 400,000 customers receive booklets with extra benefits each quarter. These booklets are tailored to the customer because they are based on the analysis of the consumption of each customer.
In addition, Konzum is planning to open its first “Premium” supermarket, featuring a special wine offer, sushi bar, steakhouse, better selection of prepared food and pharmacy for medicines that are sold without a prescription. The retailer plans to invest HRK 20 million (€2.62 million) by year’s end in the store located in Vukovar Street in Zagreb.
