Sales in the large scale grocery sector decreased by 3.15% in Italy between February 18 and 24, carrying on the slowdown trend of the previous two weeks, reports La Repubblica.
This is the third consecutive weekly decrease for the sector, which raises some concerns, the paper said.
Contrary to the previous week, grocery sales in southern Italy decreased, by 1.79%, in the seven days analysed.
Sales in north west recorded a strong drop (-3.39%), meanwhile, as did the north east (-3.52%) and central Italy (-3.12%).
As of the beginning of the year, the value sales increase for large scale grocery outlets was positive, with overall growth of 1.16%.
According to the data, the Abruzzo, Molise, Puglia, Basilicata, Campania, Calabria and Sicily regions have recorded the strongest sales growth, reaching an increase of 3.61% since January 1.
