Discounter Lidl has rejected claims in local media reports that it plans to expand its operations to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
"At the moment, we have no plans to enter Bosnia and Herzegovina," a company spokesperson told daily Vecernji List.
Previously, several media outlets said that the entry of Lidl on the local market was a done deal, illustrating their claims with the fact that Lidl has acquired a national Internet domain in Bosnia and Herzegovina (www.lidl.ba).
In the countries of the former Yugoslavia, Lidl currently has operations in Slovenia and Croatia.
The retailer is currently in the process of building its store network in Serbia, where it plans to start its activities in 2018. Lidl aims to initially open 20 stores, while the long-term goal is to have 100 stores in Serbia.
The list of cities where Lidl will have a presence include Belgrade, Bor, Valjevo, Vršac, Gornji Milanovac, Zrenjanin, Inđija, Jagodina, Kikinda, Kragujevac, Kruševac, Leskovac, Niš, Novi Sad, Pančevo, Smederevo, Sombor, Subotica, Užice, Čačak and Šabac.
