Lidl has opened its first supermarket in Bulgaria’s capital, Sofia, which features a new store concept.
The main features of the new store concept include a change in design, more space for customers and employees, increased energy efficiency and the use of 'greener' materials and technologies.
At the same time, the 1,100 square metre supermarket is also the first 'intelligent' building in the retail sector in Bulgaria, as it features a BREЕAM certificate. BREEAM is the world's leading sustainability assessment method for masterplanning projects, infrastructure and buildings, focusing on sustainable value and efficiency.
Lidl plans to open two other stores in the new format, by the end of the year, one in Sofia and one in Blagoevgrad. The retailer currently has 81 stores across Bulgaria.
